Common Diseases in Cats
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Renal Failure
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and renal failure are conditions in which kidney function deteriorates due to various causes. Although commonly seen in older cats, the risk exists regardless of age. Kidney disease is classified into four stages, with stage 4 posing a life-threatening risk. Therefore, it’s essential to prioritize early detection and early treatment to manage the condition effectively.
FIC (Feline Idiopathic Cystitis)
Cystitis, is an inflammation of the bladder, commonly seen in male cats. Symptoms include frequent trips to urinate due to a feeling of incomplete emptying, pain, and blood in the urine due to bleeding from the bladder lining. If you notice that your cat is making frequent trips to the litter box but not actually urinating, this could be a serious sign. Please bring your pet to our clinic promptly for proper examination and diagnosis.
Urolithiasis
Urolithiasis is a condition in which various components in the urine crystallize, forming stones (uroliths) in the urinary tract. When stones form in the bladder, it is known as “bladder stones.” Causes include low water intake, genetics, and inflammation due to bacterial infections, among other factors. Symptoms to watch for include increased urination frequency, signs of pain when urinating, blood in the urine, fever, and loss of appetite. If you observe any of these changes, please consult our clinic promptly. In advanced cases, complete urinary blockage can occur, posing a life-threatening risk.
Mammary tumors
Mammary tumors are commonly found in female cats that have not been spayed. If you feel a lump in your cat’s abdomen, please bring them to our clinic for a proper diagnosis. Mammary tumors in cats are often malignant, with a high likelihood of spreading and recurring. However, spaying your cat before their first heat cycle can prevent these tumors with up to a 99% success rate. Early intervention is key to reducing the risk of serious complications.
